Circles Afghan {WIP}

This project has been in the works for about a year {I think}. I began making the colorful centers sometime last winter, but didn't share them here until October. At that time, I had finished the centers and laid them out until I came up with a fairly even distribution of the colors. This winter I slowly added a white border, turning each circle into a square.

Last weekend I laid them out again, did a bit more rearranging ::

... and then I started sewing them together {with possibly a bit more rearranging}!

It's still not done, but close. Just a few more seams and a border to go.

This is not going to be a big afghan, in fact it may be no bigger than 2.5 x 3.5 ft {if I'm lucky}, but I realized that it will be just perfect as a little cover for the wee one's stroller and car seat on chilly days. And in the house it can function as a little play mat while he's still immobile.

Oh, and of course, my trusty assistant was waiting just out of the frame, you know, in case he could be of use::

Spring Wreath

Ugh, somehow a few unexpected deadlines and some crazy moments in the classroom are making my work life extra hectic just when I want it to mellow out. The deadlines meant working through the weekend rather than sewing up some baby pants or bib cloths, but I know we'll survive just fine without either {since we don't have a baby yet!}.

Then there are the days upon days of fresh snow in the middle of March, which are not helping to put a spring in our step.

So in defiance of both the snow and the work-filled days, I took a little time out on Sunday night to put together this spring wreath::

The idea came from Pinterest, and one of these days I'll track down and credit the original source {here it is!}. Really, it couldn't be easier to put together. Just grab a styrofoam wreath form, wrap it in green fun fur yarn for the grass, cut apart some daisy chain ribbon, and stick them to your wreath using straight pins.

A quick spring wreath just in time for our Easter guests!

Baby {Sweater} Watch 2013 :: Part 2

Pattern :: Baby Sophisticate
Yarn :: Lion Brand Woolease

And what to do with the extra yarn from this project? Knit our birth class instructor a uterus! Obv.

She already had a model pelvis and the wee baby that slid oh-so-easily {I'm assuming it's going to work just like that on the nugget's birth day!} through the pelvis, but she didn't have a uterus. So I knit her a life-size prop for future classes. The blue lines provide approximate measurements that she can use to discuss growth throughout a pregnancy... and nothing says "running out of yarn" like my awkward decrease near the top {right side}, but I figured that future mama's will be more focused on the stretching that's going on near the bottom than the funny slope of the top!

This week's agenda ~

Weaving in ends, sewing on buttons, and showing you some of the knits I've been working on for the wee one!

Hopefully I'll see you back here tomorrow with at least one finished little knit.
